General Technical FAQs

F1: Can I use a conventional lead-acid battery charger to charge a Lithink LiFePO₄ battery?

A: It is not recommended to use conventional lead-acid battery chargers directly. Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries should be charged with a smart charger that has a LiFePO₄ mode. Lead-acid chargers can deliver voltages above 14.6 V during equalization charging, which leads to overcharging and can trigger the BMS protection. Lithink batteries use a constant-current/constant-voltage (CC/CV) strategy with a charge termination voltage of 14.6 V and should be used with chargers suitable for LiFePO₄.

F2: What charging parameters does Lithink recommend for its LiFePO₄ batteries?

A: For Lithink's 12V series, a charging voltage between 14.4 V and 14.6 V is recommended. The charging current should be between 0.2C and 1C of the rated capacity – e.g., 50A for a 100Ah battery, but no more than 100A. A lower charging current (e.g., 20A) can extend the battery's lifespan.

F3: Does a Lithink battery need to be kept in float mode after being fully charged?

A: No. Lithink-Batterien have a very low self-discharge (approx. 2 % per month) and do not require continuous float charging like lead-acid batteries. If a charger with a float function is used, we recommend a voltage of approx. 13,5 V. After fully charging, the battery can be safely disconnected.

F4: Can Lithink batteries be charged at low temperatures?

A: No. All standard models from Lithink must not be charged at temperatures below 0 °C, as lithium plating can occur, which can permanently damage the battery. For cold environments we recommend our models with an automatic heating function (marked with "H"), which are warmed to a safe temperature before charging.

F5: Can Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries be discharged at low temperatures?

A: Yes. Lithink batteries can be safely discharged at temperatures down to -20 °C. The BMS automatically limits current flow in extreme cold. Usable capacity decreases at low temperatures – at 0 °C to about 60–70 % of the rated value. Battery insulation is recommended to ensure stable discharge performance.

F6: Does high temperature affect the use of Lithink batteries?

A: Yes, to a certain extent. Lithink batteries operate safely in the range of 0 °C to 60 °C. However, high temperatures (above 50 °C) can accelerate cell aging. The BMS activates an overheat protection at about 60–75 °C and automatically interrupts charging or discharging. Good ventilation and avoiding direct exposure to heat are recommended.

F7: What is the cycle life of Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries?

A: Under standard conditions (0,2C charge/discharge current, 80 % depth of discharge) Lithink batteries reach over 6000 charge cycles – significantly more than conventional lead-acid batteries. Some models, like the 12V 280Ah battery, offer an even longer service life and are ideal for motorhomes, off‑grid systems and similar applications.

F8: Do Lithink batteries have a high self-discharge?

A: No. The self-discharge of Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries is only about 2 % per month – significantly better than most conventional batteries. As a result, they retain their charge well even during extended storage and are perfect for backup power or occasional use.

F9: Do Lithink batteries need to be regularly fully discharged to calibrate their capacity?

A: No. Lithink batteries do not have a memory effect and do not need to be fully discharged. The integrated BMS continuously monitors voltage and current – completely without user intervention. To extend lifespan, deep discharge should be avoided whenever possible.

F10: Do Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries have an integrated BMS? What protection functions are included?

A: Yes. All Lithink batteries are equipped with a powerful BMS that provides protection against overcharge, deep discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, overheating and low-temperature conditions. In addition, cell balancing ensures stable operation throughout the entire service life.

F11: Can Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries be connected in series to increase the system voltage?

A: Yes. Many Lithink batteries support series connection of up to 4 units – ideal for 24V, 36V, or 48V systems (e.g. motorhomes, solar storage). All batteries must be of the same type, have similar voltages, and be fully charged before connection. A charger with a balancer function is recommended to extend service life.

F12: Can Lithink batteries be connected in parallel to increase capacity?

A: Yes. Lithink batteries can be connected in parallel with up to 4 units to achieve a higher total capacity and longer runtime. For example, connecting four 12V 100Ah batteries in parallel yields a total of 400Ah. Pay attention to equal voltages and cables of equal length for an even current flow.

F13: What should be considered when connecting Lithink batteries in series or parallel?

A: Please be sure to observe the following points:

  1. Same battery type, same capacity, similar production dates;
  2. Before connecting in series, fully charge each battery; for parallel connection voltage difference <0,1 V;
  3. Ensure correct polarity and secure wiring;
  4. Use copper busbars or appropriately sized cables;
  5. Despite integrated BMS, an external circuit breaker is recommended for safety.
F14: Is balancing required when Lithink batteries are connected in series?

A: Yes, regular balancing is recommended to ensure equal voltage across all cells. Lithink's BMS performs passive balancing at full charge, but a dedicated lithium charger with a balancer function is beneficial in the long run.

F15: Is balancing required when connecting Lithink batteries in parallel?

A: Normally not. If the initial voltage before connection is nearly identical, the batteries will automatically balance. Each Lithink battery has its own BMS that operates independently and does not require an external balancer.

F16: Can Lithink LiFePO₄ batteries directly replace conventional lead-acid batteries?

A: Yes. Lithink's 12V series (nominal voltage 12,8 V) can easily replace conventional 12V lead-acid batteries and is compatible with most devices. They offer lower weight, higher usable capacity and longer service life – ideal for system modernization. Make sure to use a compatible charging system with LiFePO₄ mode.

F17: Can Lithink batteries be charged via a vehicle's alternator?

A: Yes. Lithink batteries support charging in the range of 14.0–14.6 V and are compatible with most alternators. To protect the battery and alternator, a DC-DC charger is recommended, especially at high current or during extended driving.

F18: Can Lithink batteries be used as starter batteries in vehicles?

A: No. Standard Lithink batteries are designed for energy storage and power supply, not for engine starts. Avoid using them in applications with high pulse currents such as vehicle starting.

F19: Are Lithink batteries suitable for solar storage systems?

A: Definitely. Lithink batteries offer deep-discharge capability, long service life and high charge/discharge efficiency – ideal for off-grid solar systems, home storage and mobile energy systems. An MPPT controller with a lithium charging profile is recommended for maximum efficiency and safety.

F20: Can Lithink batteries be charged directly with solar panels?

A: No. The voltage from solar panels is not stable enough for direct connection to the battery. Be sure to use a charger/regulator compatible with LiFePO₄ (MPPT or PWM) that regulates voltage and current. Lithink batteries are compatible with most common regulators.

Low-Temperature Protection

F1. Can Lithink batteries operate normally at low temperatures?

A: Yes. Up to the set low-temperature threshold, discharging can proceed as normal. If the cell temperature falls below the discharge low-temperature protection threshold (ca. −20 °C), the BMS stops discharging to protect the battery. When the temperature rises again to about −10 °C or above, discharging is automatically re-enabled.

F2. Why can't I just charge at low temperatures?

A: If the temperature is below the charge-protection low-temperature threshold (approx. 0 °C), the BMS blocks the charging process to protect the cells. Charging is only automatically allowed again once the temperature rises to about 5 °C.

F3. How can I tell in the app that it is "too cold to charge"?

A: In the app the notification or error code UTC (charging temperature too low) will appear. Procedure: First let the battery warm up or connect the charger to activate the self-heating function. Once the temperature is back within the permissible range, charging can continue normally.

F4. Why is the charging current in the range of approx. 5–10 °C not stable?

A: In this temperature range the battery is in a transition zone between “heating” and “charging.” The BMS dynamically regulates output to protect the heater and cells. Once the temperature settles at around 15 °C, the charging process resumes in the normal constant-current/constant-voltage mode.

F5. Do I have to reset it manually after a low-temperature alarm?

A: No. As soon as the temperature is back above the release threshold, the BMS automatically lifts the lock. If charging or discharging is still not possible, please check the warning messages in the app and contact technical support.
